Description

Take a detailed look at your Pilates practice with the superbly illustrated exercises in Pilates Anatomy, Second Edition.

Choose from 46 exercises to target a particular body region and delve deeper to stretch, strengthen, and finely coordinate specific muscles. See which key muscles are activated, how variations and minor adjustments can influence effectiveness, and how breathing, alignment, and movement are all fundamentally linked as you work to tone the body, stabilize the core, improve balance, and increase flexibility.

Use the Personalize Your Practice section for each exercise to vary your practice and customize your workouts to fit your needs. Here you’ll find modifications to make each exercise more accessible when there are limitations such as tight hamstrings or underdeveloped core strength. Variations provide variety, and progressions are offered to add more challenge to each exercise and serve as valuable stepping stones on your journey to more advanced Pilates exercise.

Also included are techniques for breathing, concentration, and self-awareness, providing a unique exercise experience that enhances your body and your mind.

Whether you are just beginning to explore the beauty and benefits of Pilates or have been practicing for years, Pilates Anatomy is a one-of-a-kind resource that you’ll refer to again and again.

This book is full of easy to understand instruction and pictures for examples. Very nice book. I did however return it as I meant to order a reformer book and this is specific to floor/mat work.

  2. Melody Mathews

If you want to know what muscles your using this is the book.

  3. Isabella

If you want to get into the needy greedy of the anatomy of the movement, skills of Pilates, this book will not disappoint you. You don’t need to be an MD to decipher it’s content. It’s written in a way that is simple enough to understand to those with knowledge of Pilates. One of the best anatomy books for Pilates I have read. I highly recommend recommended..

  4. Natalie

I bought this, and a handful of other popular pilates books such as: the second edition of Rael’s Pilates book, the Pilates Body, Big Book of Pilates, and a DK pilates book. They each have little nuggets of info I found valuable.

However, after having gone to a reformers class a few times I wanted something that could give me a
beginners routine for the mat. This book had exactly what I wanted. Compared to Rael’s 2nd edition of Pilates book, the beginners mat routine has been easier to get going with and included modifications to build up to the full version of a move. There is nothing about the extra gear-involved moves so it’s easier to find what I need. I have already grown stronger only a few weeks from doing the beginners routine and have progressed to the normal version for some of them. If I could go back and buy only one book, for me it would be this one!

  5. Kindle Customer

    Great informative book

  6. Bilji Cherian

The content is absolutely great, but the rating of one star is for the Kindle version as the pages are missing in between, wasn’t expecting this from Amazon , please look into ASAP.

  7. Ashton

Great book. Never took a formal anatomy class and found this book useful for the application.

  8. Tori Mizinski

Would’ve absolutely loved a hard cover of this book but the info and the pics are incredibly useful!

  9. Rollo

Highly recommend to anyone serious about being an instructor.

  10. A Particular Shopper

  11. Dial B

Highly recommended book on pilates, if you are only investing in one thing, this is it. Swift delivery too.

  12. To buy or not to buy

Great book, using in conjunction with anatomy apps and colouring books to learn. Like the explanations on cuing and modifications (easier/harder) and warnings on riskier classical exercises. Recommend. Note- I’ve taken a course so find it easy reading, someone totally new to it without anatomy knowledge would still find it very useful but I suspect would find it harder to digest.

  13. K R

Very pleased with this book, it is informative and easy to read/understand
