There are many of these books on the market, and I have several, but I find this is my quick go to when I am planning a restorative yoga class. Simply written and illustrated .

This is a great manual for anyone who is interested in restorative yoga. The author does a great job of explaining why anybody can do restorative yoga. She describes ways to use items in your own home so you don’t have to spend a lot (or any) money to get started. I enjoyed the brief but interesting history of restorative yoga and the description of what makes it different from other types of yoga, which are also described in a a concise table. The diagrams and descriptions of the poses are so well done you don’t need any yoga experience to understand what the pose is supposed to be. Then, to have so many sequences offered will keep anybody’s interest for a long time. There is even a section on how to build your own sequence so you can find exactly what works for your body! The tips for each pose and sequence were extremely helpful. In short, this book is a well thought out manual that is easy to understand and interesting. I would recommend this book to anyone!

I took one restorative yoga class and I’m hooked. I’m a winegrower in my 60’s and restorative yoga offers me so much after a long day in the vineyard. This book is the perfect accompaniment for me. I can’t always make a class or even find them regularly. As a novice, this book lets me find postures, and do it on my own. Figures and explanations are clear and easy to understand. If I could magically change it, it would have a spiral or notebook binding so I could lay it flat as I try to get my ageing body to coorperate.

The information in this book is helping me to release chronic tension. I’m learning to relax all my “fight/flight” muscles. The ones that contract whenever trauma memories are triggered. The poses are very easy to do and many of them take only 5-10 minutes. You don’t need to set aside a huge chunk of time if you just want a little downtime. The illustrations are large, colorful and very helpful. The instructions with each pose include benefits as well as precautions. The author also thoroughly defines restorative yoga and all the gifts it provides. I was able to easily relax into the poses. Some of them are so soothing that I lingered in them a bit longer. I’m so glad I found this book. I already feel less stressed after just a few days of engaging in this practice.

I went to 1 professional restorative yoga session. It worked so well, that I wanted to start doing it myself. This book is everything I needed! Well organized, easily navigated on the Kindle, easy to understand, it tells you exactly what things you need to buy, AND it has warnings as to who should not do certain poses – and redirects you to a safer pose!! This book is amazing 10/10, I use it often!

Seguo dei corsi di Yoga e i manuali sono secondo me una necessità

  9. Lynn

I wasn’t sure when I ordered this, but its brilliant so easy to follow clear diagrams and lots and lots of content so pleased I purchased it. I have used it every day since purchase. Love the sequences I can’t praise this book enough. Great for anyone even from beginners. Even gives alternatives to the equipment so you don’t have to spend lots of money but I have purchased a round bolster and blocks which I think are well worth the expensive.

  10. Karen

    Very easy to follow

  11. Lisa C.

Great book for beginners, nice & large photos, easy to follow, good price. Highly recommended!

I haven’t done yoga in 4 years and never was that limber. Male, 80, I keep slowly getting stiffer. Well, I’m not going gently into that good night. Needed a place to start my come back trail. Ms Julie Clarke’s book is perfect for my need. Between the individual poses and the assortment of sequences that she provides I have had a path to follow. I’m not expecting a miracle, just progress, and that’s happening. Ain’t no way I can get hurt if I just follow her instructions.

From my reading I see my transition will flow from Restorative Yoga to Yin Yoga. I’m enjoying Bernie Clark’s The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga. Keep up the good fight, you hear.

    Julia’s book is truly excellent.

As a yoga teacher, and stress haver, I can assure you that her approach to explaining this important practice is both accessible and thorough. I highly recommend buying this book.

The knowledge she generously shares will have an immediate impact on your life, and also the lives of those around you.

The book begins with a brief and valuable explanation about how restorative yoga fits in to the yoga world, it’s benefits and what you will need to get started. She also explains how you can create props and bolsters out of common household items if you don’t have a full studio worth of props at your immediate disposal.

Poses are beautifully described with recommended hold times, cues and energetic prompts.

There are even a number of thoughtful sequences that you can easily guide yourself through.

This book is very much worth the minimal investment, and the practice is absolutely priceless.

Thank you for sharing your passion with all of us, Julia.
